The Stena Metall Group’s research and development projects fill a void in the industry. Thanks to long-term owners and a number of alliances, we can continue to invest in innovative solutions that conserve society's resources.
All our R&D projects are focused on finding sensible ways to manage society's wastes. This benefits our customers in the form of new recycling solutions that harmonize economic, safety and environmental concerns. Essentially it means making customers feel secure that their waste is managed in the best way and that they receive the maximum value for it.
There are several drivers. We want to offer the best recycling solutions to our customers. We comply with, and try to go beyond, current laws. We want to improve profitability while helping the environment, paving the way for further investments. Some projects involve extracting more material from recycled products. Others are aimed at helping us adapt to new challenges when products with new materials spread through society and one day have to be recycled.
Unique professorship
Our research programs are run collaboratively with companies, organizations and world-leading universities. No other recycling company in the world finances a professorship similar to the one we do at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg. And no one else combines research with a research academy and industrial recycling. Our investment fills an important void in the industry.
Through other collaborations, we have established several centers of excellence. The Waste Refinery and Competence Center Recycling are working on practical new solutions and on recovering energy from materials that can’t be recycled. Customers can also contact them to get answers to complex waste questions.
